BYD’s Ambitious Plan to Dominate the European Market
BYD, a leading tech company, aims to become a reference point in Europe and worldwide. According to Alfredo Altavilla, Special Advisor for Europe, the company is focused on innovation and technology. In an interview with Italpress Economy, Altavilla expressed his criticism towards the European Union’s Green Deal, stating that it is leading to the destruction of a crucial industrial sector, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs.
The Green Deal, Altavilla argues, is not achieving its original goal of reducing emissions. Instead, it is making the average age of cars in Europe increase, with some countries like Italy having an average age of over 12 years. The goal of phasing out traditional combustion engines by 2035 is not accompanied by the necessary infrastructure to support electric mobility.
BYD, however, is taking a different approach. The company is investing in its own charging infrastructure, starting in Italy, with ultra-fast charging technology. The first charging stations will be operational by the end of the year. Altavilla emphasizes the importance of technology and innovation, citing BYD’s 1,100,000 employees, including 125,000 engineers who filed an average of 45 patents per day last year.
Altavilla also criticizes the idea of competing with China in the automotive sector, stating that it is unrealistic for European companies to try to catch up with China’s decades-long head start in electric vehicles and autonomous driving technologies. Instead, he suggests collaborating with Chinese companies that have an interest in working together.
The company is also launching its premium brand, Denza, which will start taking orders by the end of the year and begin deliveries next year. Altavilla believes that the brand will find its niche in the market. BYD’s goal is to become a major player in Europe, focusing on technology and innovation, rather than competing in a shrinking market.
